康宁生命科学s’ European Distribution Center in Amsterdam was awarded an A++ energy label in 2016, which puts the site in the top 5% of office buildings in the Netherlands. A geothermal source, rather than natural gas, provides heating and cooling, and a rooftop photovoltaic (PV) array installed in 2019 provides over 60% of the site’s energy needs.

Energy

Customers across the Life Sciences industry are making climate initiatives a top priority. We strive to support their efforts by:

  • Challenging our plants todecrease carbon intensitythrough energy efficiencies every day
  • Maximizing the impact ofrenewable energyin the medium term through electrification of assets and participation in renewable energy projects
  • Assessing alternative energyto replace natural gas in the longer term
  • Working with vendors, contract manufacturers, and logistics providers to decrease associated emissions within oursupply chain

We are committed to the preservation of one of nature’s most precious resources – water. We are working under the corporate umbrella to offset future demand growth throughwater-use reductionprojects in our direct operations today. We challenge ourselves to:

  • Minimizewater withdrawalin water stressed regions
  • Introducealternative solutionsto reduce water usage in manufacturing plants
  • Maximize the use ofprovided water sources, including rainfall
  • Ensureresilienceagainst drought events

New build

Our continued growth offers an opportunity for Corning Life Sciences to integrate sustainability from the ground up. We are leveragingsustainable design principlesto decease the environmental footprint of facility expansions and new construction projects around the world by:

  • 鼓励the use of bothclean and solar energy
  • Supporting thelocal communityhealth and sustainability goals
  • Establishingresponsible actionsregarding consumption and production
  • 鼓励resource efficiencyin product creation processes as well as new builds and existing facilities

Corning has hosted one of the world’s largest rooftop solar arrays since 2015 when it acquired the former Gerresheimer Glass facility in Vineland, New Jersey, now a Corning Pharmaceutical Technologies plant. The panels were installed in 2012, owned and operated by a solar developer, and cover 11 acres atop five buildings.
