Scope of Position:Lead and provide technical support to new glass innovation programs. Invent and optimize compositions for new glass and glass-ceramic materials and product applications; Capture associated intellectual property with patent attorneys. Collaborate with process research and innovation teams. Provide fundamental understanding of glass structure and property relationships for new product inventions. Utilize modeling and characterization tools with colleagues within Glass Research and other organizations across Corning’s technology community.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Devise experimental plans and execute critical experiments
  • Review relevant internal and external literature
  • Document and present experimental and modeling results
  • Work closely with team members in product and process development organizations
  • Interface and collaborate with commercial, engineering and manufacturing colleagues
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment

Required Skills:

  • PhD or MS Degree and 3-5 years of work experience in relevant industry or lab environment
  • Background in material science, glass, or geology
  • Technically curious, self-motivated, and able to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to develop and execute experimental plans
  • Knowledge of characterization tools for bulk and surface properties of materials
  • Hands-on technical aptitude
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
  • Attention to detail, rigorous execution of work and documentation
