Occupational Nurse Position Description: The Occupational Registered Nurse will support two North Carolina Corning locations;Newton NC and Charlotte NC. In this role they will provide nursing assessments, treatments and recommendations for Corning employees related to illness or injury within their Scope of Practice. General responsibilities include providing standard medical care within standard nursing guidlines but no limited to injury and illness assessment, appropriate management of medical documentation and medical interventions within the scope of RN practice. The Registered Nurse initiates and supports timely patient flow in the collection and documentation of patient medical history, appropriate medical intervention including coordination of physician medical assessment, physical examination and occupational medical treatment. Works with Safety and other relevant professionals to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following safety standards and procedures. Adheres to the highest standard of confidentiality and ensures that all communication and dialogue is handled in same manner. Maintains effective dialogue and communication with peers, leaders, and associates. Ensures that Health Services/Safety leadership remains apprised and updated on pertinent matters requiring their attention.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Nurse will spend one day per month at the Charlotte HQ location, establishing a medical presence and ensuring employees and staff know how to reach them on days they are not present in the office. During this time will interact with employees as well as leadership as indicated.

  • Disability Process – Provide proper guidance through the disability process and interact with insurance carriers, Corning Benefits, Workers’ Compensation, Safety, and the Company Physician/Provider to facilitate processing of work-related illnesses or injuries. Ensure effective case management.
  • Absence management- utilize Corning’s PIIM (post injury and illness management) program by working with Corning’s carrier (work or non-work related) to enable early safe return to work via appropriate and monitored work accommodations.
  • Assist the FMLA vendor, MetLife where indicated-with tracking and managing FMLA requests based on medical information and company/legal protocol.
  • Performs regulatory required medical surveillance as indicated by current Occupational Health and Safety Administration or similar country/national standards.
  • Perform medical treatment in accordance with training and licensure.
  • Completes all documentation and quality checks to reduce chance of omission or errors.
  • Participate in Corning Health and Safety Programs including participation in the 24/7 Safety & Health initiatives provided by the company (such as smoking cessation, fitness program, blood drive, flu shots, weight watchers).
  • Participate in pandemic preparedness planning.
  • External interaction with medical providers routinely to assure quality care.
  • Overall responsibility for managing medical inventory in accordance with Corning Guidelines.
  • Strong daily linkage with the safety organization to review safety incidents.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years Registered Nurse Experience – Occupational Health Nursing a plus; Emergency room, Intensive Care Unit or Med/Surg nursing experience preferred. • Current CPR Certification.
  • Understanding how to prevent and manage occupational related injuries.
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Self-directed and motivated.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain medical confidentiality.
  • Ability to answer calls during off hours to manage emergency incidents
  • Timely and effectively communication as demonstrated through strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional customer service and time management skills.
  • Good computer skills included Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Electronic Medical Record Desired Qualifications:
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN | COHN-S)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Program Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Creative in promoting health and safety activities
  • Prior Experience in fast-pace medical office, clinic or similar environment
