Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
The scope of this position is to execute complex micro/nano-fabrication process flows using state-of-the-art equipment to support the entire portfolio of projects undertaken by Thin Films Research to support multiple Corning business divisions. The position requires the successful candidate to proficiently operate in the mechanical, electrical, and chemical domains in a cleanliness-controlled environment.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include daily execution of process workflows which may span photolithography, deposition, etching, thermal processing, cleaning, and characterization. The technician will perform baseline checks and maintain a log of daily, weekly, and monthly process monitoring data to ensure a well-functioning photolithography laboratory. The technician will perform routine preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs of all equipment within the photolithography lab.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
40 hours per week, with occasional opportunities for overtime. Flexibility exists outside core work hours of 8 AM to 4 PM, but within standard 6 AM to 6PM working hours.

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess):

  • Photolithography
  • Thin film processing by physical vapor deposition (PVD) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
  • Etching of thin films by wet and dry (plasma) techniques
  • Competent with microfabrication characterization techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, thin film reflectometry / ellipsometry, and surface profilometry.
  • Mastery of cleanroom processes and protocols.

  • Fabrication of complex, multilayer, thin film structures or devices
  • Demonstrated ability in solving equipment / process problems.

  • Proven organizational and decision-making abilities to prioritize competing work assignments in order to meet deadlines and adherence to quality standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner; identify challenges and barriers and recommend resolutions.
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to communicate with project team members and managements.
  • Ability to develop and communicate simple project plans, schedules, and resource requirements to complete process integration assignments.
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of personalities in a dynamic, research-based environment
