Key Responsibilities:

  • In this role, you will investigate manufacturing process alternatives and work with others to down select based on the technical fundamentals, performance and manufacturing cost criteria
  • Tackle problems and demonstrate feasibility using theoretical, empirical and modeling approaches
  • Perform supervisory function for team members matrixed to your project, including direct supervision of interns
  • Design and conduct experimentation aimed at investigating manufacturing process alternatives
  • 开发和铅早期mak样本ing processes while maintaining strategic line of site aimed at rapid transfer to pilot operations and high volume manufacturing
  • Conduct hands on work in a laboratory and pilot environment striving to make a difference
  • Communicate project status and updates to the work group – including memos, RTR, verbal presentations to management
  • Measure and communicate progress against established objectives
  • Maintaining contacts with groups outside of RD&E to facilitate problem identification and solutions
  • Document work and generate IP as appropriate Projects Involved with:
    • Using first principle knowledge to design low cost manufacturing processes (or keystone components of those processes) for new businesses, adjacencies or to enable new materials
    • Early identification and engagement on critical programs, with focus on providing novel solution paths aimed at enabling low cost manufacturing processes.
    • Development of processes that significantly improve capital efficiency
    • Projects could support any Corning division or new business

Required Education:

  • We require a minimum of a BS engineering or material science degree preferring a MS or PhD.

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 7+ years’ experience spanning multiple stages of product life including Research and Development, Process Development, Pilot and Manufacturing.

Travel Requirements:

  • We expected travel to be less than 50% but flexibility is necessary as there is the possibility of occasional project specific travel

  • Strong technical fundamentals with process research/engineering and materials
  • Supervisory skills for direct and matrixed reports
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
  • Results oriented and high level of commitment (able to work in any stage of innovation and handle risk of failure)
  • Strong lab and experimental practices; can understand fundamentals and recognize deviations and implement routine solutions.
  • The ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly
  • Able to apply the principles of process control and discipline to early stage projects
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written, including accurate recording of experiments, creating detailed documents, and reporting out or presentation within team
  • Able to implement experiments and verify theory

  • Knowledge of Corning organization and processes and business systems
  • Knowledge of Modeling capability and how to use modeling tools
  • Experiences and accomplishments spanning from early stage innovation to late stage manufacturing across multiple Corning business units
  • Innovation Black Belt (IBB)
  • Some mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding

The range for this position is $88,059.00 - $121,082.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
