Purpose of Position

Provide process engineering support for development, continuous process improvement, cost reduction, quality, and production improvement efforts while driving for fundamental understanding in all aspects of glass forming processes.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Lead projects aimed at achieving manufacturing performance targets for both new and existing processes.
  • Define process limitations based on current equipment and process capabilities and recommend how to eliminate such limitations.
  • Lead efforts to gain fundamental understanding on key processes to allow for continuous improvement, yield improvement and cost reduction.
  • Provide guidance to management on project priority selection.
  • Lead and support critical engineering and development projects that also support the plant’s goals long term objectives.
  • Leverage available resource skill sets around the division and company in areas of technology and engineering to increase odds of success on key projects.
  • Interface with and support development on new product and process introductions, raw material changes, and equipment design changes.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years engineering / development experience preferred
  • Experience in process improvement and development successes
  • Strong technical abilities and experiences
  • Demonstrated technical project leadership skills and experiences
  • Ability to review, analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from data
  • Results orientated and high commitment
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Solid presentation and communication skills

  • Understanding of hypothesis testing, experiment planning and statistical analysis
  • Structured development and problem-solving skills (e.g. Innovation, KT, DMAIC).
  • DMAIC Six Sigma methodology
  • The successful candidate should enjoy applied engineering in a real-world setting.
  • Ability to work with production and maintenance workers in a unionized setting.
  • Able to communicate priorities and influence technical direction to others.
  • Green or Black Belt Certified

Qualifications & Experiences

  • Bachelor of Science degree in ceramic, materials, chemical engineering, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in a technical or engineering field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of engineering problem solving tools, such as: DMAIC, error proofing, scientific method, KT.
  • *US Citizenship required

Work Hours & Travel:

  • Occasional travel for training courses, meeting at other locations, and visits to customers / suppliers.
